From the Grays to the NFL
The foundation of the Brooklyn Dodgers can be traced back to 1883 with the formation of the Brooklyn Grays, who played in the American Association. In 1890, the team joined the National League and was renamed the Brooklyn Bridegrooms. The name was changed once again in 1899 to the Brooklyn Superbas.
In 1913, the team was sold to Charles Ebbets and renamed the Brooklyn Dodgers. The Dodgers played their home games at Ebbets Field from 1913 to 1957.
